James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl

FIRST EDITION [1961] ALFRED A KNOPF

Stunning first edition.   No printing date listed, presumed 1971, due to a blurb on rear panel for "the upcoming sequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."

Technically a second state due to the presence of an isbn on rear of jacket, and  copyright page.  Otherwise visually identical to the first printing: unclipped front panel with price of $3.95.    By far, the nicest copy I've ever encountered.

Features original full color illustrations by Nancy Ekholm Burkert.

Hardcover with dust jacket in excellent condition.  Dust jacket is in beautiful shape; light shelf wear; a few very minuscule sealed edge tears and trace soiling.

Dust jacket now housed in a brand new HD brodart jacket protector.

Book itself is near mint.  Two minuscule bumps to otherwise pristine cloth boards.  Clean, bright, immaculate pages that read as new.  Gorgeous!

When James accidentally drops some magic crystals by the old peach tree, strange things start to happen. The peach at the top of the tree begins to grow, and before long it's as big as a house. When James discovers a secret entranceway into the fruit and crawls inside, he meets wonderful new friends--the Old-Green-Grasshopper, the dainty Ladybug, and the Centipede of the multiple boots.

After years of feeling like an outsider in his aunts' house, James finally found a place where he belongs. With a snip of the stem, the peach household starts rolling away--and the adventure begins!
