FIRST EDITION • FOURTH PRINTING [1942] FARRAR & RINEHART

Rivers of America entry by H.P. Lovecraft contemporary August Derleth.

Ex-Library hardcover with dust jacket in very good condition with flaws:

Dust jacket is in beautiful shape with some creasing around edges and some discoloration to edges of panels from library adhesive.  Original jacket price of $4.50 on front panel.   Now housed in a new HQ brodart jacket protector.

Book itself has heavy tape ghosting to yellow boards, which are otherwise clean and pristine.   Clean text block with a small stamp to top.  All library materials have been removed with endpapers fixed to text block for clean presentation.

Book reads clean with stamp on title page. *Title page and copyright page appear to have been torn out (see photos) - otherwise very good!

A classic account of the Wisconsin River's early exploration by French traders and Jesuit priests through the 1940s. Mixing folklore and legend, Derleth tells of the Winnebago, Sauk, and Fox peoples; of lumberjacks, farmers, miners, and preachers; of ordinary folks and famous figures such as the Ringling Brothers, Chief Blackhawk, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Zona Gale.
