illustrated with 18 photos.  MAN HAS ALWAYS BEEN CURIOUS ABOUT THE UNKNOWN.
Each generation has had its new worlds to conquer. And in our generation has come the greatest adventure of all-the exploration of space.  In the United States space program are scientists, technicians, and workers of all kinds, many of them women. Their work is indicative of the interesting lives women lead today, and the many kinds of enterprises open to them. Never before have women been so involved in the initial phases of great exploration.
For example, a woman mathematician tracking the unexpectedly erratic orbital variations of one of our early satellites suggested that the earth might not be round but pear-shaped. Another woman is in charge of astronomical research done with satellites. The development phases for the first rocket to stop and restart in space were co-ordinated by a woman engineer. A woan sculptor has designed space suits and beds for spacemen.
