These Happy Golden Years by Laura Ingalls Wilder with original illustrations by Helen Sewell and Mildred Boyle [LITTLE HOUSE #8]

SIXTH EDITION [1943] HARPER & BROTHERS

Incredibly rare "Sixth Edition" of the 1943 classic, alternatively, a Sixth Printing of the First Edition, with each subsequent printing after the first, released over the following 2 years, containing small variations.

Features alternate dust jacket that matches the boards, bright, unfaded baby blue fonts on boards, and a gift inscription on front endpaper dated Christmas, 1945.

Antique hardcover with dust jacket in very good reading condition.

Dust jacket shows some heavy wear and tear; several torn edges and a few faint stains, but, fully in tact.  Price clipped off of front panel.   Now housed in a new HQ brodart jacket protector.

Book itself reads beautifully.  Binding is tight.  Tan cloth boards have a bit of clouding, but are clean and vibrant.   Pages have some inevitable tanning, but read beautifully.  No tearing or markings, short of the gift inscription on front flyleaf.

Fifteen-year-old Laura lives apart from her family for the first time, teaching school in a claim shanty twelve miles from home. She is very homesick, but keeps at it so that she can help pay for her sister Mary's tuition at the college for the blind. During school vacations Laura has fun with her singing lessons, going on sleigh rides, and best of all, helping Almanzo Wilder drive his new buggy. Friendship soon turns to love for Laura and Almanzo in the romantic conclusion of this Little House book.
