The Fifth Act by Ingmar Bergman
U.S. FIRST EDITION / FIRST PRINTING [2001] THE NEW PRESS
Hardcover with dust jacket. Like new with some very minor shelf wear to DJ.
The scripts of award-winning film director Ingmar Bergman have been among the most important documents in film history. Though his vision in such films as Wild Strawberries and The Seventh Seal has shaped our thinking about the cinema, none of his most recent films have been shown in U.S. theaters. This book brings to English readers for the first time some of the finest creations of Bergman’s mature years.
Included is the script for his chamber television film, "After the Rehearsal," where Bergman reflects on his life in the theater and some of his complex relationships, as well scripts for two late works which have never been available in the US, either in movie theaters or on DVD, "The Last Scream: A Slightly Skewed Morality Tale" and "In the Presence of a Clown." The book also contains a "Monologue," which Bergman wrote as his own introduction to the collection.
