ABOUT THE BOOK
Into the Siberian gold-fields Stephen Wyld, a young American mining engineer, is sent by his chief, Michael Fielding, to establish a modern mine. How he pitted his brains against a corrupt official; how he maintained himself through the Russo-Japanese War; won the confidence of the gold-thieves and, with their aid, beat off an army of escaped convicts; how he brought peace and a measure of order to his valley—all this, and much more, is told in Siberian Gold with a vividness and convincing directness which makes the story as real as though one were living it through.
It is a tale of action and adventure, shot through with the romance of Stephen Wyld and Joan Fielding. But it is much more than this. It is a character-study of the Russian mujik; of the village priest; of Peter, the orphaned son of the gold-thief; of Kubrik, the outlaw. These and others are brought to life with the sure touch of a man who has lived among them and knows them intimately well, while, along with their quaint sayings and interesting folk-lore, so much of pure gold is revealed that the title of the book takes on new meaning.
