THE QUEST FOR KARLA (Trilogy) by John le Carré (TINKER, TAILOR, SOLIDER, SPY, THE HONOURABLE SCHOOLBOY & SMILEY'S PEOPLE

FIRST EDITION • FIRST PRINTING [1982] ALFRED A KNOPF

First edition Omnibus combining the three classic novels in Carré's Karla Trilogy.

Hardcover with dust jacket in very good condition.

Dust jacket shows some worn edges; otherwise clean and in tact; now housed in a new HQ, custom-fit, jacket protector.

Book itself is excellent.   Clean cloth-bound boards with some very minor rub wear and a hint of tanning to pages.  Otherwise, stunning.

ABOUT THE BOOK

With his three enormously successful novels Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, The Honourable Schoolboy and Smiley's People, John le Carré has triumphantly created a grey, violent, intricate world steeped in moral ambivalence and peopled by "the no-men of no-man's land."

Its leading interpreter is George Smiley, sometime acting Chief of the Circus (as le Carré's secret service is known): a troubled man of infinite compassion, yet a singlemindedly ruthless adversary.

Through these three novels, he stalks his Russian opposite number, codenamed Karla, the Soviet moles and lamplighters, scalp-hunters and pavement artists, where men are turned, burned, or bought for stock. Le Carré's sinister phraseology alone has earned him a modest place in the English language.

In Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, Smiley is summoned from retirement to catch a Moscow Centre mole burrowed thirty years deep into the Circus itself. In The Honourable Schoolboy, he is retained to clean the Circus's Augean stables. His method is attack, his quarry Karla, the battleground Hong Kong, and his choice of weapons the Honourable Gerald Westerby, Eastern hand, veteran of several marriages and Fleet Street hack.

Smiley's People tells of Smiley's final duel with Karla, and is the summation of John le Carré's espionage fiction thus far.

These three suspenseful novels-each an immense success when originally published-are now together for the first time in an omnibus edition.
